Preschool Adventure

Special programs for preschool groups. Call to schedule your program today!

Kool-Aid Kids
Dressing up and playing is fun! Our Kool-Aid Kids will enjoy learning about colors and history as they role-play in our late 19th century store and Kool-Aid stand. They’ll create a work of art to show their family and have a quick Kool-Aid party snack. Oh, yeah!

Underwater Adventure
Ever wonder what might tickle your toes as you dangle them in the water? Learn about animal life in our oceans and lakes. Fish in our pool and make a souvenir door hanger for your room. Don’t forget to make a coloring book to take home and share with your family.

Native American Children
Join us by our tipi as we learn to listen and speak with a talking stick, play games, sing songs, dance and decorate our tipi. Visit our exhibits to see how Native American life changed as more nations moved to the Great Plains. Explore & play in our Groundwater Discovery Adventure’s tipi, log cabin, dinosaur dig site and river.

BuckarooCowpoke Rodeo
Yee-haw! Grab your hat and have a rip roaring time at our Cowpoke Rodeo. You’ll be entered in cattle branding, corralling doggies and barrel racing. Of course it wouldn’t be a truly western experience without tall tales and music.

Dinosaurs
What could be more popular with preschoolers than dinosaurs? Become a museum paleontologist as you solve the puzzle of these amazing giants and perhaps help hatchlings find their mothers.

Other Fun Activities for Preschoolers at the Museum

Exhibits

Dress up as a pioneer or Native American while exploring our creative play area, Groundwater Discovery Adventure, with its tipi, log cabin, garden and chuckwagon. Or become a paleontologist and uncover dinosaur fossils in our dig site. Dam our flowing river and see if you can float your boat down the stream or irrigate your crops.

The Hastings Museum has some of the best animal dioramas to be found, including the largest collection of Whooping Cranes. Throughout the year we display temporary exhibits and hold special events such as the Festival of Trees, Native American Festival and Raptor Recovery. Please check our Calendar of Events for upcoming events, exhibits and attendance information.

Planetarium

The planetarium show, First Stars, is a great introduction to the sky. The children will begin their adventure at sunset with the planetarium gradually getting darker to see the wonders of our night sky: stars, constellations, planets and moon. Their journey ends with the gradual lightening of the sky as the sun rises. This is a 15-20 minute program.

Preschool Playday

Playdays are active learning experiences designed especially for children 3 to 5-years of age and their favorite adult. These programs are offered the first Tuesday and the following Saturday of each month, September – April, at 10:00 a.m.

Film Library

The Hastings Museum has an extensive collection of giant screen films in the Lied Super Screen Theatre from which you may choose. Special showtimes can be arranged for these films at 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Regular public shows start on the hour from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Please call for a list of films available and to schedule your special show.
