Make the Hastings Museum part of your summer! The Museum welcomes all school-age learners and offers a variety of programs designed for K–6 youth to explore and interact with objects in the Hastings Museum collection.

The Ashley Kulwicki Scholarship is available for students to participate in the Hastings Museum’s Summer Fun program. To apply, students must qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Funds are limited, and covers 2/3 of the class fee. You owe the other 1/3 at the time of registration. Limit one scholarship per person.

Hidden Gems (Grades K-1)

Join us as we explore the Museum’s hidden gems through hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, art projects, and more! We’ll celebrate National Donut Day and learn the cool history behind this sweet treat; discover artifacts that are prickly such as cacti and porcupines; explore Shel Silverstein’s poetry; make things glow-in-the-dark; and play train games.


Beginning Bookworms (Grades K-1)

June 10-14, 10-12p (10/20)

We will go on a different reading adventure each day as we explore five books: Diary of a Worm, If I Built a Car, If You Give a Moose a Muffin, Madeline and the Old House in Paris, and Press Here. These books will come alive through Museum exhibits, art projects, games, dancing, science, and more!


Out of This World (Grades K-1)

From bears to queens to an ever changing moon, the sky is full of astonishing things to see at night. Each day we will investigate a new constellation and learn how to find it in the night sky. We will also discover why the moon has so many craters by conducting a science experiment, and learn how hard it can be for astronauts to travel in space. To end the week, each student will create their own rocket to take home.


Outdoor Explorers (Grades K-1)

With over 1,500 native plants, 400 million living trees, and more than 80 native mammals, Nebraska has a lot to explore outdoors. Throughout the week, we will build a nature collage frame, design a blooming flower garden, and learn how to help keep our environment healthy for years to come. We will also learn how our weather influences the plants and animals around us and the world.


Little Artists (Grades K-1)

Rovers, landers, and satellites—oh, my! Space is full of incredible robots and apparatuses that help us learn about the unknown universe. Blast off with us as we design and build a Martian rover, track the International Space Station in real time, and investigate our galaxy to learn just how far a light year really is.


Summer Camp (Grades 2-3)

We will put ourselves on canvas, make miniature art galleries, learn how to draw from a professional artist, try our hand at making art with squeegees, make a Batik hanging, paint on wood, and so much more! Candy Science (Grades 2-3)

We will experience geology by making rock eggshell geodes and agate slices. We will be become engineers as we build STEM structures out of a variety of candy pieces. In chemistry, we will investigate the chemical reaction between Mentos and Pop Rocks. We will dip into the discovery of the cell model and DNA in the field of biology. Note: Students need to bring their own lunch. Snacks will be provided.


Lego Mania (Grades 2-3)

Calling all Lego masters! Come test your Lego abilities by creating a one-of-a-kind roller coaster, designing a Museum exhibit, embarking on Lego scavenger hunts, and building a Lego car that is powered by wind! We will also compete in a Lego obstacle course using only Lego hands.
