Treasures from the Vaults
Reveal the Treasures within the VaultsOpen June 6 - October 24, 2010
The Hastings Museum is filled with many wonderful, irreplaceable and significant things. Some of them are on display in exhibits like the animal dioramas or People on the Plains. Others are protected in the storage areas awaiting future displays or research. Items in storage are used to create temporary exhibits such as this summer's exhibit Treasures from the Vaults. Treasures from the Vaults will showcase some of the unique and historically significant artifacts as well as others that haven't been displayed for a period of time. In doing so, we will explain the importance of having artifacts in storage as well as some of the key functions of any museum. We will also look at reasons people collect and how these collections become museum artifacts.
Young and old alike will enjoy looking for unique objects within the exhibit, such as bottles made in the shape of a cabin or hidden prehistoric models peeking from under the furniture. Visitors can take a trip down memory lane looking for things they may have used earlier in their life and how technology has changed. You can see all of these treasures and more from June 6 through October 24.
