The final weekend of Hastings Museum’s Pepsi Max Rock Concert Film Series is bringing a surprise: The Rolling Stones!

On Sunday, June 2, the Museum will feature The Rolling Stone’s, “Some Girls”. This limited-release concert movie captures the world famous band at the height of its musical career. Shot on 16mm in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1978, the film has been upgraded to high definition with a 5.1 audio track. It opens with a Mick Jagger interview filmed in 2011 where he introduces the concert and offers insight into its significance in the band’s history.

‘Some Girls’ features many Stones’ classics including: Honky Tonk Woman, Tumbling Dice, Brown Sugar, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Miss You, and Beast of Burden. The film runs just over 100 minutes (Mick Jagger Interview – 15 minutes | Concert – 85 minutes).
Trailer below.

The Pepsi Max Rock Concert Film Series was designed to bring in three headlining films on the first Saturday of the month in April, May, and June. The series opened on April 6 in 3D with Peter Gabriel’s ‘New Blood’. On May 4 it roared into high gear with a sold-out showing of Led Zeppelin’s “Celebration Day”. The final Pepsi Max film is The Doors, “Live at the Bowl ’68″.

Rebecca Matticks, director of Hastings Museum, said the film series has been a huge success. “It just keeps building,” she said. “Gabriel did well, and then Led Zeppelin was a sellout. We’ve already sold more than 150 tickets to The Doors,” she said.

“The feedback from the community has been incredible. We knew we wanted to finish with something special,” she said. “Bringing back Zeppelin for an encore concert made sense right away. Then, when the Rolling Stones concert became available, the solution for the final night of the weekend was obvious,” she said.

The lineup for the final Pepsi Max weekend of rock looks like this:

ENCORE SHOW: MAY 31: Led Zeppelin: “Celebration Day” Capturing the 2007 London reunion performance of these rock and roll gods. Page. Plant. Jones. Bonham. Twenty million people requested tickets and only 18,000 got them. Now you can have a front row seat. One Show at 7 pm. Running Time: 124 minutes Trailer below.

PEPSI MAX CONCERT FILM: JUNE 1: The Doors: “Live at The Bowl ’68” A legendary show at the Hollywood Bowl widely considered the band’s best performance captured on film. Watch the Lizard King prowl the stage in all his digitally re-mastered glory. Shows at 7 and 10 pm. Running Time: 91 minutes Trailer below.

JUST ADDED: JUNE 2: The Rolling Stones: “Some Girls” The tour is widely believed to be one of the band’s greatest, largely because it went ‘back to basics’ both in musical and visual terms. It features a return to a mixture of classic Stones numbers (Star Star, Happy, Street Fighting Man) mixed with blues numbers and Chuck Berry covers, as well as several songs from the Some Girls LP. One Show: 5 pm. Running Time: 100 minutes Trailer below.

Individual concert film tickets are $15 plus tax. Saturday Night Only the $15 ticket includes one drink from the bar. Credit cards accepted. There is no ticket handling fee. For more details call the Museum during business hours at 402.461.4629 or 800.508.4629. On Saturday, June 1, the bar will be open 6-10 pm in the Museum’s Main Gallery (cash bar and free samples of Pepsi products will be available).

‘In The Dark’, a national traveling exhibit, opens Saturday, June 1, at Hastings Museum. Sometimes scary, but always intriguing, darkness beckons exploration. Discover the fascinating world of things that go bump in the night! Crawl inside a giant bat head, experience life as a termite, and explore the worlds of bobcats, skunks, and cicadas when you visit ‘In The Dark.’

The traveling exhibit from Cincinnati Museum Center features five immersive zones. Each enables visitors to see and experience the dark of largely unseen worlds, including the ways people have reacted to darkness throughout history.

The exhibit reveals what thrives beneath the soil, under the sea, in the shadows of night and within other dark environments. Each diorama uses mechanical displays, life-size animal models, and informational panels to surround visitors with the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations of several dark ecosystems.

Since prehistoric times, humans have sought to understand the function of darkness, and have invented ways to change it. Guests explore and solve some of these mysteries with hands-on exhibits, computer interactives, detailed walk-through dioramas, and fiberglass models. There are surprises around every corner. Come immerse yourself in the world of darkness. ‘In The Dark’ is on display through September 15.

More About the Exhibit
In 1832, German explorer and naturalist Prince Maximilian of Wied and Swiss artist Karl Bodmer embarked on a two-year journey that would take them up the Missouri River and into the heart of the West. Bodmer documented their finds through accurate drawings and watercolors, while Maximilian kept detailed written records. Although they were not the first explores to travel this area, their combined approach to documenting what they found makes their work an invaluable record of the life, rituals, dress, and the languages of the people they encountered, as well the landscape and wildlife of the West.

Upon returning to Europe, Bodmer supervised the engraving and printing process necessary to published their work in Travels in the Interior of North America, 1832-1834.

In all, Bodmer had 81 plates made from his original 400 watercolors. Bodmer gave the plates to Maximilian who stored them in the castle Wied. Eventually the plates were sent to the United States and displayed at the Joslyn Art Museum and later donated to the Joslyn’s permanent collection.

In 1989, a limited edition of engravings was printed using these original plates and carefully hand-colored by master artisans. Made possible with support from the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment for the Arts, as well as Kimmel Charitable Foundation, an exhibition of 40 of these prints illustrating Maximilian and Bodmer’s travels will be on display at the Hastings Museum April 27 through May 27.

More about ‘Territory 8′
The film made its world premiere at the Vegas Indie Film Fest in Las Vegas, NV, on May 1. ‘Territory 8′ is an existential thriller set in the not so distant future, where an eight mile quarantine zone in the Nevada Desert, known as Territory 8, is the site of the world’s largest man-made disaster. Shortly after a chemical weapon explosion contaminated the area, two temperamental scientists, each with their own objectives, find themselves in the working on a cure for a biological weapon – that one of them created. As they work, they discover a sinister plot for human experimentation, and a band of hostile survivors who are looking to escape at any cost. They also must contend with the Chinese government, who wants access to the weapon, and has a possible spy in their midst. Now the scientists will have to work together to expose the truth, and stay alive. ‘Territory 8′ is a tale of intrigue, suspense, and international mystery, which sheds light on the public’s growing distrust of big industry, and its effects on our environment.
