For the very first time, the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations will be staged in London’s West End, and audiences around the world will be able to share in this historic experience at their local theaters. Hastings Museum is the first theatre in Nebraska to book this incredible production.
Much like Phantom of the Opera, Great Expectations is not a movie, but a recording of a live stage performance. Unlike Phantom, Great Expectations is not a musical (see trailer below). The full playbill, as well as educational materials, are available online for Great Expectations.
Although Great Expectations has been adapted for film on two separate occasions, it has never been produced for The West End or Broadway. It was widely believed to be too difficult to translate to stage. However, this Jo Clifford adaptation has been universally acclaimed as a triumph on its sellout tour of the UK, ahead of its West End debut.
The release of this performance will form part of the global celebrations surrounding the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth. Visit the Museum’s website often for announcements of more offerings in our Performing Arts Series.
