The seasons are changing outside, and the inside of the Museum is changing too: “We The People: The Nebraska Viewpoint” is now on display in our East Gallery, replacing the previous Civil War exhibit, to expand on this year being 150 years since the Nebraska Territory joined the Civil War. There are interesting and moving artifacts, articles, video, pictures, photos and more, put together by the Nebraska State Historical Society. The exhibit covers 150 years of cultural change within Nebraska.
Who are “We the People” in Nebraska? And what role has our state played in the evolving notion of who is considered part of the “we”? These questions are at the core of this exhibit. While researchers at the Nebraska State Historical Society were putting this exhibit together, two dominant themes became apparent: the power of the right to vote and the importance of a vibrant free press.
