An amazing 3D film Premiere from National Geographic
Mysteries of the Unseen World reveals phenomena that can’t be seen with the naked eye. It takes audiences into earthly worlds secreted away in different dimensions of time and scale.
High-speed and time-lapse photography, electron microscopy, and nanotechnology are just a few of the advancements in science that now allow us to see a whole new universe. New things, creatures, and processes we never knew were there, yet always existed right before our eyes. Visually stunning and rooted in cutting-edge research, this film leaves audiences in complete amazement as they begin to understand the enormity of the world they can’t see, a world that exists in the air they breathe, on their own bodies, and in all of the events that occur around them minute-by-minute, and nanosecond-by-nanosecond. With this understanding comes a new appreciation of the wonder and possibilities of science.
Tickets required. Premiere Member showing at 6:30, with an all Member showing at 7:30. Special thanks to Mary Lanning Healthcare and Bryan Heart Mary Lanning Cardiology for sponsoring this film.
New Planetarium Show
After decades of teaching the basics of rocket physics, Rusty Rocket has decided this will be his last blast, and he already has plans for how he will spend his free time. Still there is one final mission to command: an introductory tour of the solar system for a new class of rocket rookies focusing on the wide variety of planetary environments.
Along the way, we learn Rusty is related to every famous spacecraft to explore the solar system. He also emphasizes the immense distances between the planets using cars and jets for comparison. Perfect for the kids! No tickets required. Shows at 5:30. 6:15, 7:00 and 7:45.
And More | RSVP today!
We’ll have a Treasures from the Vault Station and bring out some items of our collection that are not normally on display. One more thing. Ever heard of NanoArt? This summer we are so pleased to be participating in a public outreach effort in nanoscale informal science education. We’re hosting an exhibit that brings University of Nebraska researchers together with the Hastings Museum to explore the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces. With a combination of fun hands-on activities and NanoArt images created from actual nanoscience research at the University, people can understand more about the unseen nanoworld all around us. A range of exciting activities demonstrate the special and unexpected properties found at the nanoscale, examine tools used by nanoscientists, and invite discussion of technology and society. A perfect pairing with our new 3D film, Mysteries of the Unseen World.
