Mark Hamill narrates this journey from our Sun to the edge of a Black Hole

March 6 - June 5, 2010

On Saturday, March 6, the J.M. McDonald Planetarium will premiere STARS, a stunning new fulldome program. You’ll explore the lives of the stars, how they are born, how they die, and how human understanding of the stars has changed over time.

STARS will begin with a special members only show at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, followed by a reception in the Abbott Room. Call or email your reservation by Thursday, March 4, to Visitor Services at 402-461-4629 or visitorservices@hastingsmuseum.org.

Every star has a story. Some are faint and almost forgotten. Others burn bright and end their lives in powerful explosions. New stars are created every day within vast clouds of gas and dust. Through every phase of their existence, stars release the energy that powers the Universe. Journey to the furthest reaches of our galaxy and experience both the awesome beauty and destructive power of STARS.

This dramatic program features the voice talent of Mark Hamill, famous for playing Luke Skywalker of Star Wars, and amazing animation by the National Space Centre, Leicester, UK. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Albert-George Schram, resident conductor, performed part of the original STARS soundtrack.

STARS will show Tuesday - Friday at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. through June 5. For more information about STARS and the J.M. McDonald Planetarium, call Visitor Services at 402-461-4629.
