Participants will carry the badge as a way to remember and honor that individual throughout the Stair Climb or Community Walk. \nAt 6 pm\, Hastings Museum Director Teresa Kreutzer-Hodson will welcome participants\, followed by a musical performance from the Zion Classic Academy Children’s Choir. \nAt 6:15 pm\, participants can take part in the Stair Climb or Community Walk. Choose to climb 110 stories\, representing the height of the World Trade Center Twin Towers\, or participate for 69 minutes\, representing the time between the collapse of the South and North Towers. Firefighters are welcome to complete the stair climb in SCBA and bunker gear. \nCommunity members can participate by walking the route inside the Hastings Museum or joining the community walk around Highland Park. You do not have to participate in the stair climb to be part of the evening. \nThe evening concludes with a free showing of 9/11 Stories in Fragments at 8 pm in the Lied Super Screen Theatre. This historical documentary explores the September 11 attacks through personal\, everyday objects donated to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. These objects help tell the stories of the people and offer a personal perspective on this pivotal moment in history. Concessions will be available for purchase. \nThis free event is open to everyone. Join us as we remember\, honor\, and reflect together on the lives lost and the bravery of those who responded.

SUMMARY:Bed Turning: An American Quilt Show
DESCRIPTION:BED TURNING: An American Quilt Show\n\nJoin us on June 6\, 2026\, for a traditional “Bed Turning” quilt presentation\, where multiple quilts are carefully stacked on a bed and revealed one at a time. As each quilt is turned and lifted for viewing\, the presenter will share its history\, construction techniques\, estimated date\, and the personal or cultural stories connected to the piece. Originating as a way for women to showcase their finest needlework to neighbors and communities\, bed turnings continue to offer a meaningful and engaging way to experience the beauty and heritage of handmade textiles. \nThis program will feature quilts from the Hastings Museum collections\, presented in an intimate\, storytelling format. A bed will serve as the focal point of the event\, with quilts layered and revealed sequentially so each piece can be appreciated individually along with its unique story. This is a special opportunity for both quilters and non-quilters to explore historic and distinctive textiles and learn more about the craftsmanship and preservation behind them. \nThis program is sponsored by Humanities Nebraska. \nDuring Chautauqua programming\, the Museum will also announce the quilts and quilted items selected for inclusion in the upcoming exhibition American Patchwork: Celebrating 250 Years of Heritage\, opening September 18\, 2026\, and running through January 3\, 2027\, in the Museum’s East Gallery. \nFor more information about the exhibition and quilt call\, visit: hastingsmuseum.org/american-patchwork-call-for-quilts \n\n______\n\nWhen: Saturday\, June 6th at 2:00-3:30 pm\n\n\n\nWhere: Hastings Museum\n\nWho: All Ages\n\nPrice: Free!
