SUMMARY:9/11: 25th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:Join Central Nebraska First Responders\, the City of Hastings\, Hastings Fire & Rescue\, the Hastings Police Department\, the Hastings Rural Fire Volunteer Department\, and the Hastings Museum on Friday\, September 11\, as we come together throughout the day to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11\, 2001\, and recognize the courage and sacrifice of first responders. \n\nThe day begins at 9:15 am at Hastings College with an emergency vehicle apparatus display. A special ceremony will follow at 10 am at Lloyd W. Wilson Field at Hastings College. Community members are invited to attend the ceremony in person or tune in to the livestream on the Hastings Fire & Rescue Facebook page at facebook.com/HastingsFireRescue. \nThe evening continues at the Hastings Museum at 5:30 pm with food trucks and an emergency vehicle apparatus display in the parking lot behind the museum. Explore emergency vehicles and equipment up close and learn more about the vehicles local first responders use to help keep our community safe. Registration for the Stair Climb and Community Walk will also take place in this area. \nAs part of registration\, each participant will receive an ID badge representing a fallen firefighter. Participants will carry the badge as a way to remember and honor that individual throughout the Stair Climb or Community Walk. \nAt 6 pm\, Hastings Museum Director Teresa Kreutzer-Hodson will welcome participants\, followed by a musical performance from the Zion Classic Academy Children’s Choir. \nAt 6:15 pm\, participants can take part in the Stair Climb or Community Walk. Choose to climb 110 stories\, representing the height of the World Trade Center Twin Towers\, or participate for 69 minutes\, representing the time between the collapse of the South and North Towers. Firefighters are welcome to complete the stair climb in SCBA and bunker gear. \nCommunity members can participate by walking the route inside the Hastings Museum or joining the community walk around Highland Park. You do not have to participate in the stair climb to be part of the evening. \nThe evening concludes with a free showing of 9/11 Stories in Fragments at 8 pm in the Lied Super Screen Theatre. This historical documentary explores the September 11 attacks through personal\, everyday objects donated to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. These objects help tell the stories of the people and offer a personal perspective on this pivotal moment in history. Concessions will be available for purchase. \nThis free event is open to everyone. Join us as we remember\, honor\, and reflect together on the lives lost and the bravery of those who responded.
