Flowers, Fowl, Fish, Butterflies, and Bugs
Can You Find the Bugs?
Photography by Jerri Haussler and carvings by Dee Haussler will be on display Jan. 12 – April 2. Much of the exhibit is displayed at eye-level for young patrons. All of the artwork was produced with the hope of encouraging viewers to take a close look at the many small wonders that nature provides.
The exhibit includes photos of flowers, birds, fish, butterflies, and a variety of insects, many of which are native to Nebraska. A grouping of 25 photos are hung together with a special “Can You Find the Bug?” challenge. There are nine wooden sculptures of fish also included.
The Hausslers are longtime residents of Hastings where Jerri was an administrator at Hastings College for many years and Dee retired after a 32-year tenure as executive director of the Hastings Economic Development Corp. Jerri left her position at the college in 2002 to pursue her passions as a writer and photographer.
Jerri has been taking photos of the natural world for more than 65 years. She received her first Brownie Hawkeye camera in the third grade when she was just eight years old. Dee took up carving three-dimensional representations of fish from wood just three years ago. When he’s not working on new sculptures, you can often find him on a lake in Southeast Nebraska fishing. Their joint show is titled “Flowers, Fowl, and Fish, Butterflies and Bugs (Can You Find the Bugs?)”
