The General is a 1926 American silent slapstick Western action comedy. It is often listed as one of the best silent films ever made. Wow! It was inspired by the Great Locomotive Chase, a true story of an event that occurred during the American Civil War. Written and directed by the amazing Buster Keaton. After being rejected by the military, not realizing it was due to his crucial civilian role, an engineer must single-handedly recapture his beloved locomotive after it is seized by Union spies and return it through enemy lines.
