Upcoming 2013-14 Preschool Playday Programs
Preschool Playday is scheduled on the second Saturday of each month. It begins at 10:00 a.m. and lasts about 45 minutes.
September 14, Silly Celebrations: Ever hear of someone doing something for no rhyme or reason? Well, we’re going to look at some of the fun National Days celebrated in September, starting with National No Rhyme or Reason Day. We’ll celebrate our ancestors, try some tongue twisters and enjoy the many days which celebrate chocolate.
October 12, Day of the Race: In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue and landed in the New World on October 12th. When news reached Europe, the race to the New World and its treasures began. Preschoolers will learn about maps and treasures when they become pirates and race for treasure.
November 9, Our Native Friends: Discover the lessons our ancestors were given by our native sons and daughters on how to live in this great country. Learn about the 3 sisters; and make a beautiful necklace to remember to be thankful for our native people.
January 11, Wishing on a Star: “Oh, would you like to wish on a star, carry moonbeams home in a jar?” Preschoolers will learn about the lights in the night sky and what we can learn from them.
February 8, Brrrr! Baby, It’s Cold Outside: You think it is cold here! Let’s visit our Arctic friends and learn about life in the cold, cold North. We’ll explore the change in seasons and its effect on plants and animals that sometimes call the Arctic home.
March 8, Preschool Clayday: Preschoolers will have fun as they squish, mold and roll clay into their own creations. We’ll learn how different cultures used and decorated clay. Did you know people make clay you can eat?
April 12, Baby Animals: Birds are chirping and animals are scrambling about as they prepare for their new little families. Preschoolers and their favorite adult will learn about animal groups and meet precious little ones as spring comes to life at the Hastings Museum.
May 10, Butterfly Magic: Ever wonder about those hungry caterpillars eating garden leaves? We’re going to follow their life cycle as they grow to become colorful butterflies. Preschoolers will make a butterfly craft and caterpillar game to help them remember the magic of butterflies.
June 14, “Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway”: It’s time to hit the road for summer adventures. We need not go far to follow the trail of our new “Cruisin’ the Fossil Freeway” exhibit and learn about prehistoric animals. Children will have hands on fun with fossils, make a fossil game and enjoy a tasty fossil treat.
July 12, In the Good Old Summer Time: I scream! You scream! We all scream for Ice Cream! Americans have invented many things, but one of the best inventions was the Ice Cream Social. Preschoolers and their favorite adult will enjoy the fun of a historic ice cream party.
