We are thrilled to announce our 2025 schedule of summer classes for kids! We welcome all school-age learners and offer a variety of programs designed for students PreK–6 to explore the Hastings Museum.

The Ashley Kulwicki Scholarship is available for students to participate in the Hastings Museum’s Summer Fun program. To apply, students must qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Funds are limited. The scholarship covers 100% of the class fee. Limit one scholarship per person.

Members can register starting February 18. Registration for Non-Members begins on March 18. If you want to pay with cash or check, please download and complete the registration forms below. Forms can be dropped off at the Museum or mailed to Hastings Museum, 1330 N. Burlington Ave., Hastings, NE 68901.

Camp Read-and-Do Ages 4-5
June 9-13, 10 am-12 pm (8/15)
Instructor: Marie Law
Do you ever miss your mom when she’s away at work for the day? Find out what Chino does while mama is away in Mama’s Sleeping Scarf. How would you help find an invisible dinosaur? Figure it out in Have You Seen My Invisible Dinosaur? Then, while we play with crayons, discover the true story of The Crayon Man and his colorful invention. Students will bring these books, and others, to life each day through science experiments, arts and crafts, creative snacks, and more.

Nebraska Farms Ages 4-5
June 23-27, 10am-12pm (8/15)
Instructor: Raksha Shrestha
Old McDonald had a farm…Embark on a journey to discover the world of Nebraska farming from animals to crops, with creative and delicious projects your kids are sure to love. Students will create a barn to fill with animals as we read The Big Red Barn, munch on some popcorn as we learn about the importance of corn and beans, and explore more about farming equipment and its many uses.

Reading Railroad Ages 4-5
July 21-25, 1-3 pm (8/15)
Instructor: Raksha Shrestha
Choo Choo! All aboard the Reading Train! Explore the world of trains through books and creative activities as we learn about the many kinds of trains that have passed through Nebraska. Discover more about different types of locomotives while creating your own. Go on a journey as we chug along the path taken by the Pony Express. Design your very own locomotive to explore new frontiers and any obstacles blocking its path.

Nature Nuttiness Grades K-1
June 2-6, 1-3 pm (10/20)
Instructor: Marie Law

Connect with the outdoors as we explore the natural world around us through hands-on activities. Take a nature hike through the arboretum as we learn about the different parts of trees and find out if you can eat a tree cookie. Investigate the world of creepy crawlies and other animals as we observe them from our sit spots. We will also discover how plants can predict the weather, and of course…play with DIRT!

  • Note: This class will take place both inside and outdoors. Hats or sunglasses, sunscreen, and water bottles are encouraged.


Crazy About Hue Grades K-1
June 16-20, 1-3 pm (10/20)

Instructor: Raksha Shrestha

Put on your science goggles and join us for colorful crafts as we discover how various hues make up our vibrant world. Create your own rainbow with a kaleidoscope, as well as other fun, hands-on projects. We will take a walk in nature and explore the wonderful colors we can find in our own backyards. Students will also explore primary and secondary colors.

Winter in July Grades K-1

July 14-18, 10 am-12pm (10/20)

Beat the heat this summer as we enjoy the fun of winter a bit early. We will create cool crafts as we learn some hot new tricks. Students will make snow, snowmen, and iced hot chocolate to blow off the summer heat. They will sing and move to the Penguin Dance as we learn about these cute creatures of the cold!

Bookworm Adventure Grades K-1
July 28-August 1, 10am-12pm (10/20)
Instructor: Katie Karr
Calling all junior bookworms! Come build a sea creature as big as you after reading I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean; create a masterpiece inspired by I am Not Just a Scribble; and design your own sock monster after reading Monsters Don’t Eat Broccoli. We’ll go on a new adventure each day with these books, and others, with crafts and activities that make the stories jump off the page!

Create Together Grades K-2 and Adults
July 8-10, 9am-12pm (10/20)

Instructor: Katie Karr

Grab your favorite adult and join us for three days of adventure! First, we will see how the museum creates an exhibit and use that knowledge to make our own. Then we will blast off into space and build a rocket together. On our last day, we will sharpen our kitchen skills and make some tasty snacks together.

Snack Attack Grades 2-3
June 2-6, 1-3 pm (10/20)
Instructors: Katie Karr & Yesi Lara Panjo
From whipped meringue to no bake cheesecake, we’ll try it all! In this camp, junior chefs will gain tips and tricks to use in the kitchen, design their own cookbooks, and enjoy a snack they made themselves! Each day will be full of tasty adventures!

Unearthing Flora Grades 2-3
June 17, 9 am-4 pm (10/20)

Instructor: Marie Law

Get down and dirty with soil, plants, succulents…and so much more. Students will learn all about the Earth’s soil, water cycle, and various plants while creating their own succulent garden and terrarium. We must warn you; campers may leave with two green thumbs!

Brick Challenge Grades 2-3
June 25, 9 am-4 pm (10/20)
Instructor: Katie Karr

How long will your LEGO® minifigure survive on a desert island? Can your LEGO® brick sailboat cross the ocean safely? Is your bridge strong enough to hold ten rocks? Time to put your brick building skills to the test and find out! We will also challenge our creativity by making a LEGO® brick movie to share with the class.

Art Around the World Grades 2-3
July 14-18, 10am-12pm (10/20)
Instructors: Marie Law
Each day we will visit a new region of the world and learn about other cultures through art. Travel to Southeast Asia to create masks to scare away the Oni; go to India to play Snakes and Ladders; and head to Egypt to craft a royal headdress fit for a pharaoh. Finally, sail the ocean to the Americas for Native American art.

Amazing Animals Grades 2-3
July 22-24, 9am-12pm (10/20)
Instructor: Katie Karr

Join us as we dive to the to bottom of the ocean to investigate how animals move around in the dark. We will also soar the skies to determine why different birds have different wings, as well as roam the lands in search of hidden mammals. We will end the week by watching Superpower Dogs on our large screen to learn about animals with jobs!

Dynamic Duos Grades 3-6
July 30, 9am-4pm (10/20)
Instructor: Raksha Shrestha

What’s similar between SpongeBob and Patrick? What about Robert and Nathaniel Martin? Grab your sibling or best friend and join us for a day of fun as the two of you work together to compete against the other dynamic duos. Students will get to learn more about one another through activities like charades, scavenger hunts, and more. Compete with other groups to become the top dynamic duo and find the common thread the ties all of us to one another.

  • Notes: Due to the type of camp this is, students must register with another person who is between grades 3-6. We will provide snacks, but students need to bring their own lunch. This class will take place outdoors. Hats or sunglasses, sunscreen, and water bottles are encouraged.

Night at the Museum Grades 4-6
June 10-12, 1pm-4pm (10/20)
Instructor: Raksha Shrestha
Explore what happens behind the scenes here at the Hastings Museum. We will discover the diverse roles of museum employees and get creative with various projects. Join our curators to see behind closed doors, create your own taxidermy to decorate your space, and discover all the cool things there are to see in the museum.

Beading Bonanza Grades 4-6
June 23-27, 1pm-3pm (10/20)

Instructor: Marie Law

Plastic beads, paper beads, seed beads. Beads come in all shapes and sizes! This camp will go beyond just friendship bracelets and pony beads. Get creative as we bead a wind chime, construct an abacus, make paper beads, and so much more.

Macramé Mania Grades 4-6
July 10, 9am-4pm (10/20)
Instructor: Marie Law

Learn the ropes of macramé knot tying. Practice some basic knots to create your own wall hangers, key chain, and plant hanger to show off your knotty skills. You won’t be a square (knot) in this class, but we may get half-hitched (knot) as we spiral (knot) into this ancient craft from Arabic weavers and Medieval Moor sailors.


Culinary Expedition Grades 4-6
July 15-17, 9 am-Noon (10/20)
Instructors: Katie Karr & Yesi Lara Panjo
Does your chef want to advance their kitchen skills? If so, this is the camp for them! We will learn knife skills, food safety, and different cooking techniques. In addition, chefs will learn how to pipe a cake, make strawberry roses, and design their own cookbooks to take home!

Wizarding Basics Grades 4-6
July 21-25, 10am-12pm (10/20)

Instructor: Marie Law

Explore the wizarding world of our favorite fictional wizard H. P. Arrive at our magical classroom where we will practice our wizardly skills, concoct edible potions and slimy ones, get dirty with herbology, run the field with quidditch, study magical creatures, and other enchanted subjects as we prepare to pass our O.W.L. exams.

Inside and Out Grades 6-8
June 3-5, 1pm-4pm (10/20)
Instructors: Raksha Shrestha
Go on a journey to learn about the human body and all the exciting twists and turns that make us who we are. We will learn about how our major organs work as we travel from the mouth to the stomach and take a deep breath as we dive into the use of lungs. Create a spinal cord to play with and a working model of how our digestive system works. We will also go outside and practice yoga to focus on our breathing and the importance of the respiratory system.

Camp Create Grades 6-8
June 19, 9 am-4 pm (10/20)
Instructor: Katie Karr

From keychains to sketch books to custom cups, this camp is sure to be a hit with any artist in the making. This day long camp will be packed full of open-ended art projects where the sky is the limit! Our artists will even get to take home supplies to keep their creative juices flowing.
