There is a good chance you are thinking about eating right now. Most people spend around 15% of their time thinking about food. Of course, we need the nourishment food provides to survive, but our connection to what we eat goes far beyond simple sustenance. There are few things that can rival the importance food has to our collective history and cultural identities.
There is truth in the saying “we are what we eat.” Perhaps a more accurate statement is “what we eat is because of who we are.” While every town or county has common themes with their neighbors, they also have differences that help make a place uniquely their own. This exhibit is a buffet of the Hastings area food history that offers the familiar and the unique.
