September 24 – December 19
The Hastings Museum is thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration with the Nebraska Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NCBVI) and Tactile Images, a subsidiary of 3DPhotoWorks LLC, to bring a transformative tactile exhibition entitled Leonardo da Vinci: Artist and Engineer, to our community September 24 through December 19. This partnership marks a significant milestone in enhancing accessibility, empowerment, and inclusivity for individuals with diverse
abilities in Nebraska.
Leonardo da Vinci: Artist and Engineer is a tactile introduction to the creative mind of one of the most famous figures of the Italian High Renaissance. Focusing on the legendary Leonardo da Vinci’s engineering drawings and innovations, this exhibition closely examines his critical eye, inventive nature, and multidisciplinary expertise through various designs, from construction devices and war machines to flying apparatuses.
This exhibit provides transformative experiences for the visually impaired through innovative tactile printing techniques, offering tactile exploration of visual and graphic materials accompanied by braille text, and audio narratives. With a focus on accessibility, empowerment, and inclusivity, Tactile Images is committed to making knowledge and experiences accessible to all. This collaboration aims to enrich lives, promote critical skills acquisition, and foster independence through accessible, engaging exhibitions.
The partnership with Tactile Images and NCBVI underscores the Hastings Museum’s commitment to accessibility and community enrichment. By hosting this traveling tactile exhibition, we are creating a more inclusive environment for individuals with diverse abilities, allowing them to explore, learn, and engage with art, science, history, and technology in new and exciting ways.
